Diethanolamine is an organic compound that combines the properties of a secondary amine and a diol. It contains one secondary amino group and two hydroxyl groups, which makes it useful as a functional intermediate, pH-regulating component, buffering agent and building block in chemical synthesis.

Due to its amine and alcohol functionality, diethanolamine is used in technical, industrial and laboratory applications involving surfactants, emulsifiers, corrosion inhibitors, coatings, metalworking fluids and specialty chemical formulations.
