Trimellitic anhydride is an aromatic tricarboxylic acid anhydride used in the chemical industry primarily as an intermediate in the manufacture of resins, plasticizers, coatings, and polyimide materials. Its reactive anhydride group allows it to participate in a variety of synthesis pathways, particularly in thermosetting polymer chemistry.
Applications
Chemical Industry: Intermediate in the production of polyester and polyamide resins, curing agents for epoxy resins, and plasticizers.
Technical Uses: Utilized in the manufacture of heat-resistant polymers, adhesives, wire enamels, and coatings. Also used in alkyd and vinyl to improve thermal and mechanical resistance.
