Applications:
- Antifreeze and Coolants: Ethylene glycol is widely used in automotive and industrial applications as a key ingredient in antifreeze and cooling systems due to its ability to lower the freezing point and raise the boiling point of water.
- Polymer Industry: It serves as a raw material in the production of polyester fibers, resins, and polyethylene terephthalate (PET), which is used in manufacturing plastic bottles and films.
- Chemical Intermediates: Ethylene glycol is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of various chemical products, including esters, solvents, and lubricants.
- Dehydrating Agent: In the natural gas industry, ethylene glycol is employed as a dehydrating agent to remove water vapor from gas streams.
