Sodium triacetoxyborohydride is a mild and selective reducing agent widely used in organic synthesis, particularly for the reductive amination of aldehydes, while generally being less effective for most ketones. It is compatible with solvents such as ethanol and isopropanol; however, it is not suitable for use in methanol, as it decomposes rapidly in this solvent.
