Description
Polyaluminium Chloride PAX-18 Coagulant
Other names: PAX-18, PAC 18, polyaluminium chloride, aluminium chlorohydrate, polyaluminium hydroxychloride, basic aluminium chloride, aluminium-based coagulant
CAS Number: 1327-41-9
EC Number: 215-477-2
REACH Registration Number: 01-2119531563-43
Appearance: clear to slightly opalescent liquid, usually colorless to pale yellow depending on grade
Polyaluminium Chloride PAX-18 is an aluminium-based coagulant used in water treatment and wastewater treatment processes. It supports the removal of suspended solids, turbidity, color and selected organic substances from water by destabilizing dispersed particles and promoting floc formation.
The product is suitable for technical and industrial water-treatment applications, including municipal water-treatment plants, wastewater-treatment facilities and industrial process-water systems. Due to its high coagulation efficiency, PAX-18 can improve clarification, sedimentation and filtration performance in properly controlled treatment processes.
Chemical and Physical Properties:
Form: aqueous solution
Color: colorless to pale yellow, depending on product grade
Odor: characteristic, weak
Main component: polyaluminium chloride
Typical active content: depends on supplier and grade, often expressed as aluminium oxide Al2O3 content
Solubility in Water: miscible with water
pH: acidic
Type of Compound: inorganic aluminium salt, aluminium-based coagulant, water-treatment chemical
Chemical Behavior: hydrolyzes in water and forms aluminium hydroxide species that support coagulation and floc formation
Applications:
Water Treatment:
Used as a coagulant for the removal of suspended solids, turbidity and color from water.
Wastewater Treatment:
Applied in municipal and industrial wastewater-treatment systems to support flocculation, clarification and separation of contaminants.
Industrial Process Water:
Used in process-water treatment where reduction of suspended matter and organic load is required.
Clarification and Filtration Support:
Improves particle aggregation and supports downstream sedimentation or filtration processes.
Technical Formulations:
May be used in selected industrial systems requiring an aluminium-based coagulant.
Key Properties:
High Coagulation Efficiency: supports rapid destabilization of colloidal and suspended particles.
Floc Formation: promotes formation of larger flocs that can be removed by sedimentation or filtration.
Water-Treatment Compatibility: suitable for use in technical and industrial purification systems.
Liquid Form: convenient for dosing in treatment plants and process systems.
Storage:
Store in a tightly closed container in a cool, dry and well-ventilated place.
Protect from freezing, excessive heat and contamination.
Keep away from incompatible materials, especially strong bases and reactive metals.
Store in corrosion-resistant containers suitable for acidic aluminium salt solutions.
Handling:
Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing.
Avoid inhalation of mist or aerosol.
Use in a well-ventilated area.
Use appropriate personal protective equipment, including protective gloves, protective clothing, eye protection and face protection.
Do not mix with incompatible chemicals unless the process has been professionally assessed.
This product is intended strictly for technical, laboratory, industrial and water-treatment use. It is not intended for consumption, medical, pharmaceutical, cosmetic or feed applications.
