Description
TECHNICAL HYDROCHLORIC ACID 31–38%
Other Names: Hydrochloric acid, Hydrogen chloride solution, Muriatic acid, Aqueous hydrogen chloride
CAS Number: 7647-01-0
Sum Formula: HCl
Molar Mass: 36.46 g/mol
Appearance: Clear, colorless to slightly yellow liquid
Technical hydrochloric acid 31–38% is an aqueous solution of hydrogen chloride. It is a strong inorganic acid with corrosive properties, widely used in technical processes, cleaning applications, pH adjustment, metal surface treatment and chemical processes where analytical-grade purity is not required. The product may have a characteristic pungent odor due to the presence of hydrogen chloride.
Chemical and Physical Properties
Concentration: 31–38% HCl
Density: concentration-dependent, approx. 1.15–1.19 g/cm³
Melting Point: depends on solution concentration
Boiling Point: depends on solution concentration
Solubility in Water: Fully miscible
Odor: Pungent, irritating
Chemical Character: Strong inorganic acid, corrosive substance
Applications
Technical Applications: Used for cleaning, descaling and removal of mineral deposits.
Metal Treatment: Applied in pickling, cleaning and preparation of metal surfaces.
pH Adjustment: Used for acidification and pH correction in technological processes.
Chemical Synthesis: Used as an acidic reagent in production and technical chemical processes.
Industrial Auxiliary Processes: Applied wherever a strongly acidic medium is required without the need for analytical-grade reagent quality.
Safety
Corrosive product. Causes severe skin burns and eye damage. Vapors may irritate the respiratory tract. Use only in a well-ventilated area with appropriate personal protective equipment, including protective gloves, safety goggles or face protection.
Handling & Storage
Store in a tightly closed, chemically resistant container in a cool and well-ventilated place. Keep away from bases, reactive metals, oxidizing agents and incompatible materials. Do not store near products sensitive to acids or hydrogen chloride vapors.
