Chemical formula: BaCl₂·2H₂O
CAS: 10326-27-9
Molar mass: 244.26 g/mol
Barium chloride dihydrate is an inorganic compound consisting of barium and chloride ions, containing two molecules of water of crystallization. It is typically supplied as a white crystalline solid, granules, or powder. The substance is readily soluble in water and forms clear, colorless solutions.
Due to its high solubility and well-defined chemical composition, barium chloride dihydrate is widely used as a laboratory reagent and industrial chemical raw material. In analytical chemistry, it is commonly used for the detection and precipitation of sulfate ions through the formation of insoluble barium sulfate. It may also be used in chemical synthesis, water treatment processes, pigment and ceramic production, metal processing, and other technical or industrial applications.
The product should be handled in accordance with appropriate chemical safety procedures, as soluble barium compounds are toxic if swallowed or inhaled. It should be stored in a tightly closed container, in a dry and well-ventilated area, away from incompatible substances.
