Phenol-formaldehyde resin is a synthetic polymer formed by the condensation of phenol with formaldehyde. It is widely used in industrial applications due to its mechanical strength, chemical resistance, and thermal stability. The resin exists in two forms: resols (alkaline conditions, heat-hardened) and novolacs (acidic conditions, heat-cured with hardeners).
Applications
Industrial adhesives and binders: Used in the production of laminates, plywood, and fiberglass-reinforced materials.
