Calcium Carbide (CaC₂)
Description:
Calcium carbide is a gray or black crystalline solid that reacts with water to produce acetylene gas and calcium hydroxide. It is widely used in the chemical industry to produce acetylene, which is used in welding and cutting metals. It is also used to make other chemicals such as calcium cyanamide and as a desulfurizing agent in steel production. Due to its high reactivity, it must be handled with caution.
