Anhydrous aluminium chloride (chemical formula: AlCl₃) is a white to pale yellow solid, widely used in both industrial and laboratory applications as a Lewis acid catalyst. It has a high affinity for water and reacts violently with moisture to form hydrogen chloride gas (HCl).
